Main area of work revolving around patents in the chemical field, principally litigation, both cross-border and national, opinion work, Opposition and Appeal Proceedings. Specialized experience in photochemistry, lithographic printing, magnetic carriers, pharmaceuticals, polymers, fibres and electrochemical sciences. Litigation experience with pharmaceutical patents relating to, inter alia, Citalopram, Consensus Interferon, Diltiazem, Enalapril, Nifedipine, Omeprazole, Pantoprazole, Pro-urokinase, Ranitidine, Ribavirin, Salinomycin, as well as with protective rights covering, e.g., high tenacity polymer filaments, polymer additives, carbon fibres, textile fabrics, alkaline batteries and electrodeposition.

Author of Hansen/Hirsch "Protecting Inventions in Chemistry" (Wiley VCH 1997); More than a hundred publications on questions of German, European and East European patent law in GRUR, GRUR Int., Mitt., AIPPI and FICPI Journals, IIC, Patents & Licensing and other professional gazettes.

Senior Partner of Hoffmann ยท Eitle and Head of its Chemical Department. European correspondent of Patents & Licensing, Tokyo, Japan since 1976. Frequent speaker. Ranked in Chambers Global "The World's Leading Lawyers", editions 2002/3, 2003/4 and 2005/6 in the Number One position for Germany (Intellectual Property: Patent Filing) and noted therein "to be at the top of the tree for his work on cases in the chemical industry".
