Career

Read physics at Oxford University (Lincoln College), graduating with first class honours in 2003. Particular specialisations included renewable energy technology, semiconductor, optical and micromagnetic devices, condensed matter physics and particle physics. In 2006, completed a doctorate under the Department of Materials Science and the Clarendon Laboratory, Oxford University, entitled “Luminescent Erbium Metallofullerenes for Quantum Information Processing”. Research focussed on the chemistry and physics of carbon nanosystems, including synthesis and analysis of nanomolecular systems, fullerenes and nanomagnetic materials, and nanoimaging and characterisation techniques and technologies. Several publications in a number of high impact-factor journals resulted.

Obtained (with Distinction) the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London in 2009. Joined Hoffmann · Eitle in 2008. In 2011, Mark was awarded the Ballantyne Prize by the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys in recognition of outstanding performance in the Infringement and Validity paper of the British Qualifying Examination. British Patent Attorney since 2011. European Patent Attorney since 2012.

Personal Information

Leisure interests: yacht and dinghy sailing, skiing and scubadiving, and also singing with a number of London choral societies. He has self-built, and now maintains, a two-seater roadsport kit-car.
