An enthusiast for challenging cases

Carmen Cooper has over 10 years of experience in global IP portfolio management including development of IP strategies during R&D processes, drafting and prosecution of patent applications before the EPO and the German PTO, coordination of worldwide prosecution, Opposition and Appeal proceedings in front of the EPO, validity and freedom to operate (FTO) opinions, consulting in IP transaction deals and IP Due Diligences.

Her expertise covers the biotechnological, microbiological, biochemical and pharmaceutical patent fields.

Carmen studied biology at the Universities of Düsseldorf, Germany and Valencia, Spain, graduating in plant molecular biology and microbiology and moved on to the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Freiburg for her doctoral thesis in the field of protein assembly in pathogenic bacteria. After seven years in private practice, five of them as head of the patent department in the Asian office of a French IP Law firm, she gained ample in-house experience in the fast moving consumer goods as well as pharmaceutical business during her eight years as a Senior IP counsel in two German MNCs before joining HOFFMANN EITLE in 2021.

Carmen was born and raised in Germany and speaks fluent English, Spanish and French. When she is not focusing on IP you are likely to find her with her family on the beach, in or on the water, practising yoga or any combination of the above.
