Contentious proceedings before the Opposition Divisions and Appeal Boards of the European Patent Office across the entire spectrum of chemical and pharmaceutical inventions, in addition to patent application proceedings before the EPO and the UK Intellectual Property Office. Particular expertise in the area of refrigerant compositions, bio-active ingredients for foodstuffs and photochemistry. Involved in Decision G 1/99 concerning the issue of reformatio in peius in the EPO.

Career
Studied natural sciences at Cambridge University (degree in 1983), with an emphasis on organic chemistry including reaction mechanisms and organic synthesis, organometallic chemistry including molecular conformation and catalytic activity, and biochemistry including gene expression and genetic recombination. From 1983 to 1987 patent experience in a British patent law firm; British Patent Attorney since 1987. European Patent Attorney since 1988. With HOFFMANN EITLE since 1987.
