Hermann Koch joined Hoffmann Eitle’s mechanical engineering practice group as a trainee patent attorney in 2018. He has since been involved in patent prosecution and opposition cases before both the European and German Patent Offices.

Before joining Hoffmann Eitle, Hermann studied Medicine at Charité University Medicine Berlin from 2009-2011, where he passed the German Physikum (preliminary medical examination) in 2011. After that, he changed paths and opted to study mechanical engineering with a specialization in chemical and process engineering at RWTH University, Aachen, where he obtained his master’s degree in 2017. During his studies, he worked for a U.S. medical device manufacturer in Pittsburgh, PA, where he gained practical experience in the field of medical modelling and simulation, and in particular in physiological and pathological simulation of the pulmonary and cardiovascular systems. Hermann also has valuable experience in simulation and modelling of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and cellular signal transduction.

Hermann’s main interest lies in bridging the gap between medicine and engineering.

Outside of work, Hermann volunteers at the lifeguarding branch of the German Red Cross, where his main focus is swift water rescue.
