Specialisation
Morten works primarily with examination, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office. He also prepares opinions regarding validity, infringement and freedom to operate under British law. His expertise with patent work spans a wide variety of technical fields within chemistry, including pharmaceutical chemistry, polymer chemistry and food chemistry. He has particular expertise and experience in EPO opposition cases, where he conducts ca. 15-20 hearings per year. Morten has been involved in the coordination of multi-jurisdiction litigation, and providing hands-on advice during litigation. Specific areas where Morten has worked on high-profile EPO Opposition cases with co-pending national litigation include enzymes for animal feed, PET bottles, ceramics, specialty polymers, chewing gum formulation, asthma treatment, incontinence treatment, glaucoma treatment, treatment of stomach ulcers and veterinary antibiotics.
Morten is listed as one of only 30 recommended individuals Europe-wide for EPO work in the 2015 edition of the IAM 1000 guide, which notes that Morten consistently “does a great job in litigation” and has an “excellent feel for EPO opposition proceedings”.
Morten frequently presents at conferences, and often travels to the US and Scandinavia.

Career
Morten studied chemistry (inorganic, organic and physical chemistry) at Oxford University (Keble College) 1998-2002. He graduated with a Master's honours degree in 2002, having carried out a final year research project and written a thesis in the field of inorganic chemical crystallography. He obtained the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary College, University of London. Morten has been with HOFFMANN EITLE since 2002, and qualified as a British and European Patent Attorney in 2006.
