Jan Yukio Wels is a trainee patent attorney with a particular focus on European and German patent prosecution.
Jan studied aerospace engineering in Stuttgart and Munich, with part of his studies taking him to the University of Tokyo (東京大学). Along the way, his technical work has taken him from aircraft engine development in Bavaria to hands-on vehicle testing in Hokkaido.
His patent practice covers a broad range of technologies, with a particular focus on mechanical inventions. He assists clients in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, assessing patentability, and developing prosecution and opposition strategies.
Half Japanese and raised bilingually in Germany, Jan has also lived in Japan for extended periods. This background allows him to work comfortably across German, English and Japanese and to bridge the linguistic and technical gap between Japanese inventors and European patent proceedings.
Based in Munich, Jan makes good use of the proximity to the Alps and regularly heads into the mountains for high-alpine tours.
