Andreas Zilkens is a mechanical engineer and patent attorney in HOFFMANN EITLE’s Mechanical Engineering team. Drafting patent applications and representing clients in patent examination procedures before both the German and the European Patent Office belong to his daily routine. He has practical experience in European opposition and appeal proceedings as well as in German nullity and nullity appeal proceedings.
Before starting to work in intellectual property at HOFFMANN EITLE, Andreas studied Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University and subsequently further specialized by studying Automotive Engineering at the Technical University of Munich. During his studies, he worked several years at different research institutes in the fields of plastic processing, drive train and automotive technology. The research fields he worked in include synthetic elastomers, the production of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, innovative multi-plate clutches, steer-by-wire systems, and active suspensions, the latter of which he conducted research on during his master’s thesis in collaboration with BMW Group.
In his free time, he enjoys home improvement projects, go-karting, and Spanish classes. When the weather is nice, he likes to go running along the Isar River or try his hand at via ferrata climbing in the mountains around Munich.
