David Meine is part of the Electrical Engineering and Digital Technologies practice group of HOFFMANN EITLE and is currently training to become a German and European Patent Attorney. With his background in physics and economics, he has broad technical knowledge in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer-implemented inventions, and the modelling and simulation of complex systems. His focus areas are patent prosecution and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO), as well as drafting patent applications.

Having spent several years abroad, David enjoys the international environment at HOFFMANN EITLE and collaborating with and advising a variety of international clients including from Japan, China, Korea, the United States, and Europe.

David studied physics at the University of Hamburg and economics at Humboldt University of Berlin. He gained practical experience at the Alan Turing Institute in London, where he developed labour market models in collaboration with the UK Department for Business and Trade, in the field of open-source intelligence for international organisations, and as co-founder and CTO of an edtech start-up offering AI-powered tutoring. Prior to joining HOFFMANN EITLE at the beginning of 2026, he completed his PhD in physics and complexity science at Imperial College London, focusing on agent-based models of financial markets. During his doctoral studies he also held a two-year Fellowship at George Mason University.

Outside of work, David – a Hamburg native – is happiest on the water, sailing or windsurfing. He also follows American football and enjoys a going to the theatre.
