Markus Freiberger is part of the chemistry team at HOFFMANN EITLE and is currently training to become a German and European patent attorney. With a strong background in physical and analytical chemistry, he brings deep technical expertise in mass spectrometry, supramolecular chemistry and nanoscience. His current work focusses on drafting and prosecution of patent applications before the German and European Patent Office as well as opposition proceedings and freedom-to-operate analyses. Having gained professional experience in the regulatory environment of medical devices prior to joining HOFFMANN EITLE, he combines scientific rigour with a keen understanding of complex regulatory and legal frameworks.
Markus studied chemistry at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. During his studies, he spent a semester abroad at the Shenzhen University in China, conducting research on graphene oxide derivatives. He completed his doctoral thesis on supramolecular host-guest chemistry, employing a wide range of spectrometric and spectroscopic techniques including ion mobility mass spectrometry (IMS), tandem mass spectrometry and isothermal titration calorimetry. A research stay at the University of Manchester further broadened his analytical skill set. His research has been published in renowned journals such as Angewandte Chemie and Nanoscale. Upon finishing his PhD, Markus worked one and a half years at the medical device certification department of TÜV Süd. Thanks to his extensive technical and scientific training, he is able to quickly grasp complex chemical inventions and to translate them into robust patent protection.
Apart from work, Markus enjoys ballroom dancing, playing the electric guitar, competing in chess tournaments and exploring Europe on his motorbike or bicycle.
