Creativity, commitment and passion
Adrián Francisco is a trainee patent attorney in the Medical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence department at Hoffmann Eitle, where he has been working since 2023. Adrián has gained hands-on experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications before both the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO), across a broad spectrum of technological fields including medical devices, nanomaterials, sensors, and diverse artificial intelligence applications.
In addition to patent drafting and prosecution, Adrián also carries out patentability, infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses. He works with a wide range of clients from around the globe, including universities, research centers, start-ups, SMEs, and multinational corporations. His practice covers a variety of sectors, but he has developed particular expertise in medical technologies, advanced materials, and AI-driven innovations.
Adrián studied a long degree of physics at Complutense University in Madrid, Spain, spending one year in Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Netherlands, with an Erasmus scholarship. Later, he obtained a Master II at Université Rennes 2 in the field of nanomaterials, obtaining a Mention Bien. Adrian received a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Innovation (FPI) to pursue doctoral studies and successfully obtained a PhD cum laude at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, wherein he studied the optoelectronic properties of hybrid lead iodide perovskites at low temperatures and high pressures, where he gained hands-on experience with complex experimental setups and depth-dived into fundamental theory such as regarding electron-phonon interactions. Adrián has co-authored several publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, such as The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, Advanced Optical Materials or Macromolecules, and has presented his work in several congresses and symposiums.
