Unitary Patent now includes Romania
News | 01.09.2024
As of September 1, 2024, any unitary patent (UP) registered will automatically designate Romania as part of its territorial coverage. Importantly to note: UPs registered before this date will not include Romania in their territorial scope.
As previously reported, Romania deposited its instrument of ratification for the Unified Patent Court Agreement on May 31, 2024. With this step completed, Romania officially became today the 18th member state of the Unified Patent Court (UPC). Consequently, the territorial scope of any UPs registered on or after this date will extend to Romania, alongside the 17 original member states.
