Your guide through the patent landscape

Christopher Schoene has been with HOFFMANN EITLE since 2016. He helps clients defend and oppose IP rights related to small molecule therapeutics, dairy products, diagnostic devices, biologics, vaccines, cell therapies, etc. He works with clients residing all over the world including lone inventors, small and medium sized companies and corporate giants.

Chris began his biotechnological pursuits at Imperial College London where he completed his bachelor’s degree. During his time at Imperial, Chris was a member of the iGEM (international genetically engineered machines) team where he gained a deep insight into the field of synthetic biology. The project that Chris was involved in aimed to genetically modify bacteria to swim towards the roots of plants where they would then induce growth thereby tackling the issue of soil erosion.

Chris took the lessons learnt from his undergraduate days and applied them to the field of protein engineering during his PhD. Chris developed an enzyme cyclization platform that increased the thermal resilience of several enzymes including phytase, a commercially relevant enzyme in the field of animal feed processing.

Chris is a German and Colombian national who was born in Colombia and has lived in the US, Spain and UK. He now resides and works in Munich.

In his spare time, Chris enjoys playing the guitar, traveling, scuba diving and spending a sunny day under the shade of a tree in a Biergarten.
