Lena Carina Mayer is currently training to become a German and European patent attorney as part of HOFFMANN EITLE's chemistry team. Her work involves dealing with new applications, grant proceedings and opposition proceedings before the German and European Patent Offices. She particularly enjoys working with the firm's international client base, as this enables her to address challenging issues and consider a global perspective. She is fascinated by the combination of scientific expertise, legal knowledge, and intercultural communication skills that this work requires. She is highly committed to the diverse challenges of this demanding field.

Lena earned her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich. While studying for her Master's degree in inorganic and organic chemistry at LMU, she also found time to undertake research at the University of St Andrews in the United Kingdom for several months. For her doctoral thesis, she focused on asymmetric catalysis with biomimetic systems in high-pressure autoclaves, as well as determining the enantiomeric excesses of the resulting products using gas chromatography (GC) and high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). Consequently, she gained technical expertise as well as chemical knowledge during her doctoral studies. Her knowledge of analytical methods and organic synthesis enables her to analyse complex chemical problems precisely and develop innovative solutions.

In her free time, Lena enjoys playing the trumpet in a symphonic wind orchestra and exploring nature on foot or by bike.
