Comparative patent practice conference (CPPC)
This year, the CPPC seminar is scheduled to be held as a hybrid seminar on November 8 (Tue) and November 9 (Wed).
Detailed program information will be posted on our dedicated CPPC website on October 18, 2022. We look forward to seeing you all again!
UPC masterclass (webinar)
May 17 & 18 - June 28 & 30 - July 8, 2022
Our experts have been studying the design and development of the system closely from the beginning and look forward to entering a new era of patent litigation with you. In four case studies covering main practice areas of patent litigation, the new system will come to life, highlighting advantages, risks and strategic tweaks.
The timing of the individual webinars will allow for an in-depth assessment of the respective topic as well as for Q&As from your own practical background.
UPC-Workshop: Practical help on opt-out and validation (webinar)
December 1, 2022
The Agreement on the Unified Patent Court is expected to enter into force on 1 April 2023. Frequent questions in this context include: Should an "opt-out" be declared for patents already granted? Should future patents be validated "traditionally", i.e. nationally, or (as far as possible) as a unitary patent?
We will provide you with concrete decision-making aids for these and other urgent decisions in our free online workshop in German. You can find the program here.
UPC Introductory seminar & Masterclass (webinar)
February 15, 2023
HOFFMANN EITLE will be giving an “Introductory seminar” (in Spanish) and a “Masterclass” (in English), one just after the other, to get ready for the upcoming changes once the Agreement on the Unified Patent Court (UPCA) enters into force on 1st June 2023 (expected). Each seminar will be followed by a Q&A session.
The Introductory seminar will be given by Silvia Bertran Valls and Dr. Irene Martín, both European and Spanish patent attorneys at HOFFMANN EITLE, and will cover the basic aspects related to the European Patent with Unitary Effect (EP-UE) and Unified Patent Court (UPC). One aim of this Introductory seminar is to respond to questions such as: what is a European Patent with Unitary Effect, how can I obtain it, and how does it compare to the “classic” validation procedure in terms of costs and geographical protection. We will further discuss key features of the new UPC system, its competence and how to avoid it by requesting an opt-out.
In a second “Masterclass” seminar, Dr. Clemens Tobias Steins, partner in HOFFMANN EITLE’s patent litigation and contracts group and Dr. Joachim Renken, partner at the Biotech group at HOFFMANN EITLE will explain in more detail the EP-UE and UPC and will present patent and litigation strategies and considerations as to when to “opt out”. We will also look into the challenges and risks associated with the opt-out process.
As complementary resources for the webinar, you can download for free our new UPC handbook; you can also access our “HOFFMANN EITLE Cost Calculator” to compare scenarios for unitary effect with national validations.
Life Science IP seminar (webinar)
June 22 & 23, 2022
For more than two decades, HOFFMANN EITLE has organised the Life Science IP Seminar in Munich every two years. In view of the positive feedback received from last year’s online event and the uncertainty of how long this global pandemic could still linger, we will continue to offer the Life Science IP Seminar online in 2022. The seminar will deal with current topics of intellectual property protection for inventions in the field of life sciences.
This seminar is considered by many to be an important opportunity to keep updated of developments and is characterised by a very high number of experts from the industry and the legal profession.
